FIBROMI UTERINI
Domande frequenti (FAQ)
Uterine fibroids, also called myomas, are benign (non-cancerous) tumors that develop from the muscular tissue of the uterus. They are common in women of reproductive age and often cause no symptoms. When symptoms occur, they may include heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, urinary or bowel symptoms, and infertility. Diagnosis is made through a gynecological examination and ultrasound. Treatment ranges from monitoring and medication to surgery.
Treatment for uterine fibroids depends on symptoms and size. Asymptomatic fibroids do not require treatment, only periodic monitoring. For symptomatic fibroids, options may include medicines (such as GnRH analogues or SPRMs to reduce size and bleeding) or surgery (myomectomy to preserve the uterus, hysterectomy to remove it, or embolisation to reduce blood flow to the fibroid). The treatment choice is individual and should be made by a doctor based on the patient's age, desire to become pregnant and specific circumstances.
